The Irish impact of this pending acquisition (these things always take ages) is significant as LinkedIn has roughly 1,000 employees in Ireland, while Microsoft has 1,200 permanent staff and a rotating cast of oodles as contractors.

LinkedIn has never had the love the hip younger social brands possess, nor does its end game look as obvious in terms of profitability. What it does have is data, lots of it, and a whopping great heap of potential.
