Dermot Desmond diamond firm hits Canadian paydirt

Company estimates value of diamonds in mine to be more than CAN$20 billion

Mountain Province Diamonds, the billion-dollar Canadian diamond company in which Irish financier Dermot Desmond is a major shareholder, has begun production of diamonds.

Mountain Province, which is drilling for diamonds in Canada’s remote northwest territories in partnership with South African diamond giant De Beers, has told Canada’s stock exchange that it will ramp up its diamond production in the Gahcho Kué region in mid-September and begin full commercial production in the first quarter of 2017....
