Data protection budget too small for job, Dixon warns

The Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) has warned the government that Ireland is suffering reputational damage because the regulator’s budget is too low.

Helen Dixon expressed disappointment last week after one third of the extra funding she requested was granted in Budget 2020. An increase of €1.6 million brings the budget to €16.9 million for next year but the office had sought €5.9 million extra.
