Customers to bear cost of many Eir rural broadband links

Up to 15,000 homes and businesses will be charged to bring the wire from public roads to their doors

Thousands of Irish homes and businesses will be hit with extra charges for connecting to high speed broadband despite commitments from the government and private sector operator Eir to roll out the service nationwide.

Up to 15,000 homes and businesses included in the 300,000 that Eir took responsibility for delivering broadband to will be charged to bring the wire from public roads to their doors, the company told The Sunday Business Post.
