Credit unions consider options with view to entering mortgage market

Credit Union bosses will decide wether to enter the mortgage market in the coming weeks

Credit unions are considering the best way to make a play for the mortgage market.

Last month, Dublin-based St Raphael’s Garda credit union became the first credit union in Ireland to offer mortgages, with loans of up to €300,000 over a maximum term of 25 years.

A spokeswoman for St Raphael’s said its new mortgage offering has been “really well received” so far.
