Counties outside the pale must reap economic rewards

The border counties of Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Louth, Monaghan and Sligo are at risk of economic decline, even as the broader economy experiences jobs growth.

The most recent IrishJobs.ie jobs index, published this month, found that job vacancies nationwide grew by 7 per cent year-on-year and by 1 per cent quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2018.

In the border county of Cavan, however, job vacancies fell by 27 per cent year-on-year and 29 per cent quarter-on-quarter.
