Ardagh, the glass bottle and container packaging company controlled by billionaire Paul Coulson, has thrown its hat into the ring to snap up parts of rival Ball Corporation.

Ball, a US company, has been told it must sell off more than a dozen metal can manufacturing plants in Britain, Europe and Brazil to secure its own takeover of British company Rexam.
