There was good news in recent days – and a big slice of “I told you so” – from the Irish boss of Australian airline Qantas.

The seven cent dividend, as well as a 57 per cent increase in underlying full-year profit of AUS$1.5 billion (€1 billion), is just the latest sign that Joyce’s aggressive and controversial cost cutting has worked.
