Even at a price tag north of €2 billion it isn’t the biggest takeover ever of an Irish aviation leasing and finance company. That honour goes elsewhere.

But for Domhnal Slattery, the increasing likelihood of a takeover of his five-year-old leasing business Avolon is a staggering turnaround for the businessman.
