Chinese state oil company and Exxon Mobil can drill off Kerry coast

Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment Sean Canney granted the consent to drill in the Porcupine Basin after the application passed its latest and final environmental test

The Government has granted an application to drill an exploratory oil and gas well 200km off the coast of Kerry by a subsidiary of the Chinese National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC Petroleum Europe) and Exxon Mobil. Drilling is likely to take place in the summer months while weather conditions allow for it.
