Speculation is rife that Liberty Global is poised to follow up its €80m purchase of TV3 with a swoop for the struggling UTV Ireland

‘It is all speculation.” That’s what UTV Ireland staff were told when they were assembled by station management last Monday. The meeting had been called to respond to The Sunday Business Post article last weekend that US cable giant Liberty Global was expected to buy the commercial station.

Liberty – via Virgin Media – bought TV3 last December for €80 million, while ITV is thought to be keen to offload UTV...
