Broadcast body rules out funds for online content producers

BAI chief says additional funding raised from changes to the TV licence fee collection should be used to support radio and TV

The head of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has ruled out giving producers who make online content access to its broadcast fund.

The fund, a finance scheme for TV and radio programmes, is funded through TV licence revenue.

Some people in the industry argue that if the €160 licence fee is extended to apply to online devices, a possibility currently being examined by the Department of Communications, then money from the broadcast fund should...
