Bakhurst and O’Reilly in running to succeed Curran at RTÉ

Generally, RTÉ tends to appoint director generals that are current or former employees of the state broadcaster

Noel Curran is stepping down as RTÉ director-general

High-powered TV executives are eyeing up the top job at RTÉ, following the announcement that its director general Noel Curran is due to retire next May.

Kevin Bakhurst, the deputy director general, has been at the broadcaster since 2012, and many RTÉ insiders feel that the post would be a natural progression for him. But it is expected that Bakhurst will have some stiff competition for the role.
