The indications at McDonald’s, the fast food giant and the world’s second-biggest private employer, are certainly troubling. The company’s business has turned onto a downward trajectory and customers are giving it a wide berth.

The corporation’s chief executive, British-born Steve Easterbrook, last week admitted that “the numbers don’t lie” and “we are not on our game”.
