It is universally acknowledged that if a radio station wins breakfast, it wins the day. Newstalk had been winning breakfast.

Many listeners found Newstalk’s unlikely double act of Chris Donoghue and Ivan Yates refreshing, and a change from the straight-up news style of Morning Ireland on RTE Radio One. Last year, it reached 709,000 listeners weekly, up by 25,000 year on year.

Its daily average is an audience of 171,000.
