London’s FTSE 100 yesterday closed at a record high, moving above the 7,500 mark for the first time. The index ended up 68 points or 0.9 per cent at 7,522.03.

It was the second day in a row that the index had hit a new peak. But what is behind the recent surge which has seen the index rocket by around 25 per cent since the aftermath of last June’s Brexit referendum?
