Irish academic institutions have been late to establish creative writing courses, but as DCU becomes the latest to add a qualification to its timetable, Irish authors say it’s time we took the romance out of writing and rooted the craft in hard work and talent

‘Nobody can write your book, your story, except yourself,” says Anne Enright, the Booker Prize-winning author who has just been appointed Professor of Creative Writing at UCD. “No one can tell you how to write it. But [what a] teacher can do is support that in some way, nudge you in some direction.”
