In this ultra-connected age, people power cannot be underestimated. When Volkswagen announced it was making a performance version of its loveable Up city car (stylised ‘up!’ by the usually sensible German company), which would wear the brand’s fabled GTI badge and hark back to the original Golf GTI of 1976, car fans rejoiced. And then Volkswagen Ireland said it was highly unlikely that the Up GTI would be sold here. What a shame.
