This enriching concert celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Great Exhibition, an occasion for building what subsequently became the National Concert Hall.

The exhibition was declared open on May 9, 1865 by the Prince of Wales and 930,000 visitors attended within six months. This is a staggering statistic, reflecting, no doubt, Dublin’s status as second city of the empire. But also, let’s not forget, just 20 years removed from the Great Famine.
