Filmmaker Paul Duane is interested in the nonconformist, the person who refuses to do what is expected of them, as his latest documentary about the decidedly eccentric Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond – conceptual artists and former members of pop group KLF – demonstrates. Interview: Tony Clayton-Lea

The life, times and work of an acclaimed filmmaker can be filled with equal measures of joy and frustration. Just ask Paul Duane. The Tipperary-raised, Dublin-based director has recently completed work on three documentaries (joy) and is using most of the remainder of the year to work on getting them released and watched (frustration). He is then hoping to take some time away from work to come up with more ideas (joy) while figuring out how his low-budget work will make him enough money to pay the mortgage (frustration).
