The path to the classroom for teachers who are new to Ireland can be difficult to navigate, but the Migrant Teacher Project is working to change that, writes Sarah Taaffe-Maguire
Irish school pupils are a diverse bunch. The same cannot, however, be said of their schoolteachers. Only 1 per cent of primary teachers and 2 per cent of post primary teachers working in this country come from minority ethnic backgrounds. And, despite full qualification and considerable experience, for many migrant teachers the route to employment is a rocky one.
