One of the wine world’s true superstars, Steven Spurrier has taken time out from the family wine estate in Cornwall to visit Dublin, and to talk about a new book that chronicles his fascinating life in wine

In 2008, the English actor Alan Rickman played Steven Spurrier in the film Bottle Shock. Thirty-two years earlier, Spurrier had set up and hosted a wine competition in Paris which changed the wine world in one day. 1976 was the US bicentennial year, and Californian wines were set head to head against first classed growth Bordeaux and Grand Cru Burgundy. The Californian wines won. Time magazine, the Washington Post, New York Times and US government could not believe it. The French nation was shocked.
