The benefits of play have long been extolled for kids, but it’s adult playtime that is increasingly being seen as essential to our wellbeing, writes Jessie Collins

Ireland’s recent weather events brought with them a cornucopia of unexpected moments, from a run on bread to a Lidl looting; we were a country in the grip of a kind of polar-induced fever, slowly emerging from our dazed state as the snow subsided and reality crept back in. And through the highs and the lowlights, one of the unsung delights was the full permission to behave like an eight-year-old.
