Premier piano contest gets first female winner

‘The young French girl will be there or thereabouts,” was the word from the RDS during the gruelling, week-long, preliminary judging sessions for the tenth Dublin International Piano Competition in the National Concert Hall.

And the prediction was spot-on, as 18-year-old Nathalia Milstein became the first woman to win the triennial contest in its 30-year history. She also put France into an equal lead with Russia in terms of winners, clocking up the third win out of ten, with compatriots Romain Deschamps (2006) and Philippe Cassard (1988), who was the inaugural winner.
