Annie Clark can’t talk about New York without conjuring up her personal love of the place. “I lived in the East Village in New York for ten years,” the musician recalls. “The thing about the East Village is that you’re walking around with the ghosts of your heroes - you think, ‘Oh, that’s where Patti [Smith] and Robert Mapplethorpe hung out, and Arthur Russell used to make music in an apartment block a few blocks away’. And you’re walking around with the ghosts of your own life. You think, ‘Oh, I fell in love in front of that bodega’. And it’s all the things. So much life happens in just a couple of blocks.”
