Off message: bring back breadwinners?
The government needs to ask itself exactly why it wants women in the workforce, instead of supporting their choice to raise their children themselves
In the depths of the recession, a friend of mine wrote a letter to the editor on what he felt to be the only practicable solution to the country’s economic woes: take the mothers out of the workforce. Make it pay for them to stay at home to mind their children, he said. Then, with more jobs to go around for the rest of the folk, the problem would be solved.
