Is monogamy over as a dominant cultural trend?

I ask because, coming up to the centenary of John F Kennedy’s birth, more and more men – and women – seem to be increasingly behaving like everyone’s favourite historical womaniser, and seeing their long-term relationships as part of an all-you-can-eat buffet, rather than the only dish available to them on the menu.
