It’s time to cancel ‘cancel culture’ and replace bilious trolling with a ‘forgiveness culture’ that drags the online community out of a cycle of self-destructive negativity

You know what I’d like to cancel? Cancel culture: the term for idiotically deciding to decommission people because they’ve taken a false step in life. Cancel culture is everywhere right now. Game of Thrones fans want to ‘cancel’ Game of Thrones writers because they hate season eight of the series. The 1990s music star Moby got ‘cancelled’ earlier this week because Natalie Portman has accused him of making up stuff about the pair having dated, when she was 20, in his new memoir. Moby says it’s true; the internet says . . . well, frankly, the internet is saying unprintable things, but rest assured the comments are offensive.
