In the wake of the Belfast rape trial, it is clear that we need better sex education in schools – and that the new system should be monitored

I’m very glad to hear that a new sex education system is going to be brought into our schools, following Minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton’s decision to ask policymakers to review the existing 20-year-old curriculum, but I have to be honest: I wasn’t aware we had an old sex education system, never mind one so outdated that it was in need of a fix. If the sex education in my alma mater could be defined as a system, then you might as well call my old Volkswagen Polo a racing car fit for Lewis Hamilton’s purposes.
