Mercedes-AMG is a maker of some truly extraordinary automobiles, given it is the arm of Mercedes responsible solely for high-performance machinery, but in recent years it has been experiencing an issue at the top of its range. Customers who were happily buying the likes of the C 63 and E 63 performance saloons were looking to make the next step up, to a grand touring, four-door ‘coupé’ (for want of a better word), but Mercedes-AMG was lacking such a thing in its portfolio.
