Mercedes makes confidently ‘awesome’ plans
A greater emphasis on its AMG nameplate in 2018 is one of several strands of Mercedes Ireland’s masterplan that it is bullish about
Mercedes-Benz is not mincing its words. Its Irish operation this week revealed that it has 18 brand-new models to launch in the next eight years alone, and the target is a high one: number one in the global luxury car market. That means selling more cars than its biggest rivals and compatriots, Audi and BMW, across all territories. Not so long ago that would have looked like an impossible task. After all, the Audi line-up currently kicks off with the A1 supermini and Q2 crossover, both model segments Mercedes has yet to enter. And though Audi sells ‘A’ models one to eight, it isn’t exactly done with exploring new ‘Q’ SUV niches. Never mind BMW with its series cars one to eight and X cars one to seven.
