When a manufacturer is trying to build a new brand of performance cars from scratch, poaching the head of BMW’s M Division is probably a masterstroke. That’s exactly what Hyundai did in 2014, when it persuaded top German engineer Albert Biermann to join the company, following nearly two decades of sterling work at BMW’s fabled performance branch.
