Six weeks ago, California legalised cannabis for recreational use. But while getting high has never required so little effort in the Golden State, there are fears that its rapid commercialisation could create a new set of problems

Beverly Shea, 88, is glamorous, sassy and vibrant. An impeccably groomed Ann-Margret lookalike with a Mae West laugh and a sense of humour to match, she moved to Hollywood half a century ago with her photographer and filmmaker husband. After they divorced, she worked as an estate agent for 40 years, buying and selling high-end properties.
