In 2016, Dan Lyons published Disrupted, his account of a year spent working at “inbound marketing” company Hubspot. The book showcased the tech industry at its most dystopian: a hive of cult-style brainwashing, nonsensical management techniques (one co-founder brought a teddy bear to meetings as a prop) and nauseating, infantilising company jargon (employees are “graduated” instead of being let go).
