Tapping into its rich history in whiskey production, a new Galwegian initiative is reclaiming the drink for the West

Galway made a bold and brilliant claim last week to being a whiskey city at the launch of the Galway Whiskey Trail. It was a city-wide event attended by thousands that began with academics and historians, and culminated on the banks of the Corrib at Spanish Arch with a theatrical performance celebrating uisce beatha in a fashion that made prehistoric Newgrange rituals seem tame.
