If you like the looks of an SUV but not the concept, then perhaps Ford’s superb Focus Active crossover is the answer, writes Matt Robinson

In the great consumer rush towards high-riding crossovers (ie, hatchback mechanicals hidden by a body that look like a shrunken 4x4) and SUVs, certain traditional sectors of the automotive market are being decimated by the shifting customer demands. The D-segment family cars, for instance, like Ford’s Mondeo, are dying a slow and somewhat painful death.
