Anyone following the recent Graham Dwyer murder trial would have been impressed by the painstaking impartiality of the judge during his utterly balanced summing up of the evidence. Here was a man who – following the verdict – informed the jury that he agreed with their decision. But he was scrupulous in bending over backwards to publicly being seen to give equal weight to arguments for the defence and prosecution.
