As a children’s neurosurgeon at Dublin’s Temple Street Hospital, John Caird is part of a highly specialised team that treats children with brain injuries and tumours, dealing with up to 50 new tumour cases a year. He believes the day is not far away when there will be a cure for malignant brain tumours in children. “Cures will come from the laboratory, and I’m hopeful in my lifetime we will see major advances.”
