Downing tools and taking off to see the world is no longer the preserve of the young, as the newly retired are proving with increasingly ambitious travel plans, writes Muriel Bolger

Scrub terms such as retirement, Third Age and silver surfers and replace them with words like ‘interested’, ‘fun loving’ and ‘curious’. That’ll give a truer image of the sort of grown-up individuals who are travelling the world, enjoying new experiences and fulfilling dreams. Remember these are the people who lived through Beatle-mania, flower power and the Swinging Sixties and they’re still setting trends.
