Fifteen years ago, Porsche entered previously uncharted territory as it launched its first SUV. Two of Germany’s ‘Big Three’ (Mercedes-Benz and BMW) were already at it, but people were less sure about a sports car maker turning its hand to a luxury SUV. That first generation went on to sell more than 270,000 units, and its successor sold close to double that.
