One of the biggest rock acts of the mid-1980s, Mötley Crüe were washed up within a decade. Then they met manager Allen Kovac, who turned their fortunes around. Their colourful tale is told in the explosive new Netflix biopic The Dirt, writes Michael Lanigan

‘I’m a data person,” Allen Kovac admits. “Although I understand musical structure, melody and lyrics, what I love more is data.”

On the surface, Mötley Crüe’s long-time manager has offered up the least rock ’n’ roll personal statement imaginable. This is especially the case, given that he is discussing the notoriously excessive LA rockers’ new biopic, The Dirt, which recently arrived on Netflix.
