In an opening much like that of Anna Karenina, the late Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes conjured a “miserable Irish Catholic childhood” in Limerick. Mining more memories of Mammy, this animated film from Brown Bag is based on his children’s book Angela and the baby Jesus. Ruth Negga voices Angela’s mother while Lucy O’Connell does Angela herself, and it’s narrated by the author’s younger brother, Malachy. Short ...
