Of all the makey-uppy miserable ideas put out there to ruin our happiness, Blue Monday must be the worst. Tara Flynn is having none of it and here she lets us in on seven things she’s learned that can act as proper antidotes to that horrible day

Until about 2009, when I first started using Twitter, I was blissfully unaware of the existence of Blue Monday. Then my timeline brought the concept slamming to my attention. Not to be too hard on myself, it seems the concept only came into being as a marketing idea for a travel company somewhere around 2005, so I was in a state of unknowing bliss for a mere four years. Since then, despite the complete makey-uppy-ness of the concept, I still feel a little surge of dread when the day rolls around. Having the day named by officialdom – albeit travel marketing officialdom – somehow makes it worse.
