Choir on song for Bach’s ‘mighty’ Mass

JS Bach’s mighty Mass in B Minor was not performed in its entirety in his lifetime. He assembled it from pieces composed over 20 years, but on July 28, 1750, less than a year after its completion, he died after an eye operation.

But his reputation survived in folk memory and 80 years later Felix Mendelssohn restored Bach’s place in history with a momentous performance of his St Matthew Passion.
