Dexys; Let The Record Show: Dexys Do Irish and Country Soul

The first album of new material in two decades from the world’s first boyband sees the three surviving Monkees, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork, sharing vocal duties, while the late Davy Jones is also spookily present via a vintage vocal on Love To Love. Produced by Adam Schlesinger (Fountains Of Wayne), Good Times! is filled with great songs written by the likes of XTC’s Andy Partridge, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo and Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller combine their songwriting talents for the rocking Beatles-esque Birth Of An Accidental Hipster, while the grooving and shaking of the Harry Nilsson-penned title track was originally written and recorded in the 1960s. It doesn’t deviate from the shiny pop blueprint that made the quartet such a success in their heyday, but that’s a good thing, right?
