John Maguire: Little to marvel over in latest wannabe blockbuster
The third film in the Ant-Man trilogy from director Peyton Reed demands nothing from the accomplished cast other than size mutability and a talent for staring at green screens
Going into every Marvel film with an open mind, expecting to see something new, is a precursor to disappointment. Ten minutes in and the mind slams shut like a heavy door. These are not satisfying experiences anymore, if they ever truly were, but an endlessly recycled collection of interchangeable heroes, familiar action beats, recognisable tones, and nudging callbacks to the tangled storylines. Marvel has become the mashed potato of cinema: bland, smooth and nutritionally empty.
