Your Money: Savers seek new options

Moves by the state to get people spending mean it's not so attractive to save money, but there are still some interesting deposit possibilities, writes Barry J Whyte.

Last year's budget saw finance minister Michael Noonan heap greater pain on Irish savers in the form of a whopping 8 per cent increase in the deposit interest retention tax (Dirt), in an effort to coerce people to spend their cash rather than sit on it.
