Ireland's summer has finally appeared from behind a cloud, but fearing that its appearance might be short-lived, thousands of families will head for sunnier climes in the coming months.

More than 22.7 million passengers travelled through Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports last year, according to the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA).
