The year just gone was a strong year for equity returns and 2014 should see modest positive returns for this asset class. Three of the key themes attracting our attention in 2014 are: 1) the recovery in North American and European construction and building materials markets; 2) the broadening of a eurozone recovery; and 3) fear around lower growth expectations in emerging markets. Each of these should provide many opportunities for the equity investor, with three specific ideas highlighted here.
