Xi Jinping appearance dispels ill-health rumours

Last February China’s leader-in-waiting, Xi Jinping was all over the Irish media. But, until yesterday, he had disappeared from view, sparking rumours of ill-health.

Last February it was hard not to open an Irish newspaper without seeing a picture of China’s leader-in-waiting, Xi Jinping.

His state visit to Ireland was viewed as a significant boost to Ireland’s relationship with the eastern superpower. But in recent weeks Xi was absent from the Chinese media with no explanation.

Indeed, during his absence, rumours of health problems had circulated in China, the Financial Times reported.
